Colorful eye-catcher

When planning façades, timber frame or metal stud constructions with open joints offer attractive design options. However, in addition to the design aspect, functionality plays a decisive role. With both open and closed joints, the insulation must be protected from the effects of the weather, such as rain or drifting snow, and moisture must be drained away. In wooden constructions in particular, the façade membrane must also protect against dirt and insect infestation. The membrane therefore performs an important task - for years to come. The façade membrane must therefore also have basic properties such as diffusion openness and resistance to ageing in order to permanently protect the insulation behind it, but also to prevent energy loss.

Thanks to the wide variety of suitable materials and creative design concepts, open façades can now be individually designed. One popular option is the use of colored façade membranes, which offer attractive design options and create an impressive depth effect in the façade design. Our example from Gründau-Rothenbergen shows what this looks like in practice.

Planning the new building was a very special task for everyone involved. The daycare centre had to be recognizable as such at first glance, both inside and out. The interior offers space for up to 77 children, who can meet in various rooms, such as the children's studio or the children's adventure kitchen. Modern, light-flooded rooms and the use of lots of glass also allow the children to see each other from one room to another at any time. The building was designed with inclusion in mind. All levels are accessible to the children via an elevator. A particular highlight of the building is that there is direct access to the garden from both floors. "This always creates a surprise effect for the parents," says Selena Flach, head of the daycare center. You can also see the building's façade from the garden areas, which gives the building its very own character. The client opted for a natural wooden façade, which creates an eye-catching look, especially in combination with the green façade cladding and the colored elements on the windows and doors. "The colors bring the whole thing to life and you can tell that it's a children's daycare center," says Selena Flach, describing the external appearance. The green façade membrane, which was used behind the wooden cladding, contributes to this in particular. The architect and the client quickly agreed on the choice of color: the daycare center should stand out from the surrounding buildings and be clearly differentiated by the special green color in the façade design. Josef Steinbach's carpentry team laid over 400 square meters of the diffusion-open, green façade membrane, which is suitable for cladding with open joints. "The membranes were laid vertically, which also worked best, as this resulted in less waste. Laying the façade membrane was easy, as all the accessories were also matched to the façade membrane and all the associated requirements. In addition, the responsible Dörken sales representative was always available and provided us with advice and support during the preparation and installation," says Josef Steinbach about his experiences during the project.
